Two Form One students from Migori County stunned St Joseph Rapogi High School management when they reported to school with almost nothing.

The two students, Philip Okindo, 14, and Maxwell Iragosa, 15, reported to the school without school fees, uniforms, or bedding.

Okindo scored 380 marks while Iragosa scored 371 marks out of the possible 500 marks in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Okindo who hails from Nyabisawa village in Suna West reported to the school with a box containing toothpaste, a bar of soap and pens. He didn’t have any other personal effects not even blankets, bedsheets, shoes or a uniform.

Speaking on their aspirations, Iragosa who hails from Uriri Kasembo village noted that he wants to be a structural engineer architect whereas Okindo wants to be a doctor.

The students had expressed their fears of missing out on school stating that they were yet to raise the requisite fees of Ksh62,000.

But yesterday luck came calling to the two boys when the school Principal Erastus Nyagwa was moved to tears by their situation.

Nyagwa who called the students to his office after learning of their desperate situation via social media noted that he was moved to assist the desperate students even as calls for well-wishers pledged to chip in and help the two actualize their dreams.

According to Nyagwa, Okindo’s mother, Winnie Awuor, had pleaded for financial assistance saying she was unable to raise the fees needed.

“My husband, Joseph Obadiah, died in 2014, and I have to labour in people’s farms to feed my young family of three,” She said amid sobs.

Several Form Ones reported yesterday amid calls for the release of the NG CDF funds. Most of the parents hoped to get bursaries but they were unable to because of the delayed funding of NG CDF Nyagwa said.
