Two people have been charged at the Kiambu Law Courts for impersonating officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Samuel Morara Nyambane and Joseph Murimi Njue were arrested when they presented themselves at the DCI Headquarters as officers from the Directorate of Military Intelligence under the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and National Intelligence Service, respectively

The suspects are said to have presented themselves to the DCI offices looking for assistance before their trick was unearthed, and they were arrested and later presented to court.

“Two suspects have been charged with impersonating persons employed in the public service at Kiambu Law Courts by detectives based at the DCI headquarters,” DCI confirmed.
Lack of identity cards

Nyambane and Njue were taken into custody after they failed to identify themselves as investigating officers.

“The two had cited frustrations from the investigating officer in a case of obtaining money by false pretense that was allegedly recorded at Central Police Station, Nairobi. Hesitant to buy into their narrative, detectives asked the two to produce their identification documents.

The duo had thought that they would outwit the crime busters when they claimed they hadn’t carried them; hence, they were subjected to further background checks where it was established that they were personating, leading to their arrest and subsequent arraignment,” the statement added.

Swindlers

DCI said Nyambane and Njue are swindlers and want people who might have been conned by the duo to report to their offices.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the two are part of a group of swindlers who have been defrauding unsuspecting members of the public. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations wishes to inform any persons who may have fallen victim to the two to report at the DCI Headquarters,” DCI concluded.
