A tragic incident has occurred in Sigowet-Soin sub-County, Kericho County, where a 30-year-old woman has died in what is suspected to be a case of suicide. Authorities reported that the woman, identified as Chepkoech, was found hanging by the neck in her home’s compound, with initial evidence suggesting she used a mosquito net for the act.
According to reports, Chepkoech’s sister-in-law was the first to discover her body, but unfortunately, her attempts to rescue her were in vain, as Chepkoech had already passed away by the time she was found. The local police, led by Peter Nthiga, the area police commander, have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the factors that may have led to the woman’s decision to take her own life.
As part of the investigation, Chepkoech’s body has been transferred to the Sigowet Sub County Hospital mortuary for further examination. The community is left in shock and mourning following this tragic loss, and authorities are working diligently to understand and address the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We have launched investigations into the incident. For now, we haven’t determined the motivation.
“We are currently in communication with family members, and we anticipate providing comprehensive details on this matter in due course,” stated Nthiga.
The officer emphasized the importance for young families in the region to seek counseling support when necessary, particularly given the recent surge in reports of domestic violence cases at the station.
“Marital problems are real and you cannot run away from them if you are married. What matters is how you resolve them. Seek help when you need it to avoid pushing each other to an early grave,” added Nthiga.
