Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has shared a candid account of the challenges she faces while balancing motherhoodwith a demanding political career, describing it as both emotionally and physically overwhelming.
In a video shared on her TikTok page on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Orwoba highlighted the constant tension between her public responsibilities and family life, noting that it is difficult to manage both roles at the same time.
She explained that the experience is not only challenging but also deeply draining, especially when political duties and urgent family needs arise simultaneously.
Orwoba noted that the constant pressure of switching between public service and parenting leaves her with little room to rest or recover.
Struggles of a working mother in politics
Orwoba emphasised that being a female politician and a mother comes with unique pressures that are often underestimated. She pointed out that unexpected family issues can arise at any time, even when she is fully engaged in political work.
“It’s not easy being a female politician who is also a mother; it’s hard. Sometimes you are out there running political errands, and then you receive a call from the house telling you even the child’s food has finished,” she said.
She further expressed admiration for male politicians, suggesting that they often do not carry the same level of domestic responsibility when they leave home for work or political engagements.
According to her, this difference highlights the unequal burden placed on women in leadership.
Family demands and emotional pressure
Orwoba also opened up about the emotional strain of managing multiple family responsibilities alongside her public duties.
She described situations where she is forced to deal with personal challenges involving her children while still maintaining her professional obligations.
She noted that the pressure leaves very little time for rest or recovery, adding that the demands of political life can be overwhelming, particularly for women who are also full-time mothers.
“If you see any politician out there, just tell them ‘big up’. It takes a lot just to show up… If you are not in politics, you are a full-time mum,” she concluded.
