Grief has gripped residents of Shinyalu, Kakamega County, following the gruesome discovery of an 8-year-old girl’s body dumped inside a pit latrine.
The young learner, a student at Lukaya Primary School, went missing on Saturday.
Her disappearance triggered a desperate community search through thickets and rivers, ending in heartbreak in Lutungu Village.
DCI detectives reveal that her body bore visible injuries. Investigators believe she was assaulted and killed before her body was disposed of to conceal the crime.
Police are holding the suspect, 20-year-old Fredrick Likongono Muyale, following a rescue from a mob attack.
Her remains are now at the mortuary pending a post-mortem.
