Police in Marsabit Central have seized 180 jerricans of cooking oil suspected to have been smuggled into the country illegally.

The cooking oil is believed to have been transported from Somalia into Kenya through unauthorised routes.

Confirming the incident, Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo said the consignment was intercepted on Monday while being transported in a passenger vehicle at the KBC area in Marsabit town.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face charges related to the illegal transportation of the suspected smuggled goods.
