A family in Kipkaren Estate on the outskirts of Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, is mourning the loss of two sons who died on the same day in what authorities believe were separate incidents of suicide.
Their mother, Melisa Namwendwa, said she had left her two sons, aged 31 and 18, who had been living with mental health challenges, at home before going to church.
When she returned and received no response from inside the house, she sought help from neighbours, who forced the door open and found the two brothers dead.
The widowed mother said the tragedy has left the family devastated, adding that she is also caring for another son who is living with mental health challenges linked to substance abuse.
The family is appealing for KSh500,000 to help meet funeral expenses. The bodies of the two brothers are being preserved at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
The deceaseds’ sister, Marion Amollo, appealed to well-wishers to support the family, saying they are unable to raise the burial costs on their own.
