Kenyan singer Jacob Obunga, widely known as Otile Brown, has publicly opened up about the breakdown of his working relationship with fellow musician Jovial, claiming a disagreement over the release of their song Ulinihukumu marked the beginning of their fallout.
In a series of posts shared on his Instagram page on Monday, July 13, 2026, the singer said he had written the song for Jovial and was unhappy that it was released despite his reservations.
According to Otile, he had requested more time to make changes to the track before it was released, but his concerns were not taken into account.

Explaining why he felt disappointed, the singer said the decision to proceed with the release left him feeling disrespected. “I don’t care how you succeed, and even the song Ulinihukumu which is causing trouble is a song I wrote for you entirely. You decided to release the song when I had not consented. That was enough of a sign that you didn’t respect my feelings,” he wrote.
Otile further stated that he had expressed concerns about the song before its release but said the conversation ended on a negative note. “Today I’m telling you, ‘There is something missing with the song,’ and you insult me, hang up the phone, then you go and release the song without permission. I mean, you couldn’t just have a little patience so I could show you what I meant?” he added.

Otile speaks on working relationship
The singer also reflected on their past collaborations, saying he had invested time and effort into helping Jovial’s music career. He claimed he had offered advice, creative input and support on several projects over the years.
Otile further criticised what he described as a lack of willingness to accept guidance, alleging that this had affected her professional growth. “The truth is that you are arrogant, argumentative, and you use emotions to make decisions. You don’t listen, and that is why you have failed to progress,” he claimed.

He also said that he had contributed creatively to some of her music projects and encouraged her to take advantage of opportunities created through successful collaborations.
No public response yet
Jovial has not yet publicly responded to Otile Brown’s latest remarks. The two artistes have worked together on several songs in the past, including Ulinihukumu, I Got You and Matatizo, collaborations that were well received by fans.
It remains unclear whether the dispute will affect any future collaborations between the two musicians, with fans now closely following the developments.
