Gachagua accuses MP Wamumbi of sharing secrets with President Ruto

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Eric Wamumbi of sharing their confidential conversations with President William Ruto.

According to the DCP boss, who was Mathira MP before taking over office as Deputy President, he confided in Wamumbi about his family affairs and key wealth ownership, only for the information to be shared with the Head of State.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with grassroots mobilizers from Nyeri County on Monday, he expressed regret for confiding in MP Wambumbi, saying that it has allowed President Ruto to purge him and his family.

“I trusted him and showed him my land properties and what I did wrong is I showed him where my sons do business. He took the report to Kasongo and now  Kevin and Keith have been chased by the GSU and they are back home,” he said.

He also cleared the air on the accusations surrounding his alleged forceful takeover of his brother’s properties after he died in 2017.

Gachagua dismissed claims that he failed to honor Nderitu Gachagua’s will, saying that all family members received their rightful share of his late brother’s possessions.

“Gachagua gave his wife Margaret 5%, Karungaru 5%, his four children 10% each, my late mother 5%, myself 5% and all his sisters 1%,” he elucidated.

“We tried to sell the property but there was nobody to buy it. When I became the Deputy President, they said I should use my position to find buyers and I did. We sold the property and we divided the money.”

Gachagua narrated that the family members used up all the money accrued from the sale of the properties and MP Wamumbi convinced them that they can repossess them for resale with President Ruto’s help.

“The children had over Ksh.100 million. The wife had almost Ksh.60 million each. They have used up all the money and Wamumbi has now looked for them, saying that all the sold property can be returned so that they sell again,” he said.

“He (Ruto) is a funny man because he has the NIS. Instead of probing the things he has been shown by a politician, he rushes to say it without confirming.”

His clarification comes months after President Ruto once launched a scathing attack on Gachagua, accusing him of manipulating Nderitu’s will in his favor.

The President accused him of denying his family their share of the inheritance, even accusing him of murder.

“You cannot mislead this nation, a character who has no morals, who has gone to manipulate the will of his brother to disinherit widows and orphans and he want to lecture us about stealing. You cold-blooded thief, stealing from your own brother,” said Ruto during a public address on his developmental tour in Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County on March 17, 2026.

“Someone who has gone to impregnate young children and then goes on to kill them is telling us about murder. You cold-blooded murderer. We will not allow you to mislead anybody in this country. You are not going to be anything in this nation. You belong to the rot in jail.”
