Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has demanded answers over the circumstances surrounding the death of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, directly challenging Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to explain what happened.

Speaking during a rally at Mogondo Centre in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, on Friday, Gachagua said that when he went to visit Ngeno’s mother earlier before his rally, she told him the family had not found closure following the former MP’s death.

“Mimi nikiwa hapa nataka kuambia mama  tunataka tujibiwe.  Siku ya kifo alikuwa Endebes na baadaye ikaenda mahali ilikuwa inabadilishiwa mafuta ya ndege…kuna jamaa alileta mafuta ya kipekee na alitoka Lodwar….ndege ilitoka saa 3.07pm yule jamaa alihojiwa ila kuna simu ilitoka juu eti jamaa aachiliwe,” he said.

This translates to, “We want answers. On the day of the death, he was at Endebes and the plane was supposed to have its oil changed and there’s someone who brought in a different kind of fuel from Lodwar. The plane departed at 3:07pm and the man was questioned and a call was made and he was set free.”

Gachagua continued, “Tunataka Murkomen aseme anajua nini ndio yule jamaa aachiliwe.”

This translates to, “We want Murkomen to tell us what he knows about the matter that led to the man’s release.”

Gachagua said Ngeno’s mother was also concerned about the speed with which her son was buried. He questioned why Ngeno’s mother had allegedly been left struggling despite promises of support.

He claimed Ngeno’s mother told him she had been promised assistance but was now struggling to meet basic needs, including buying medicine.

Gachagua also accused Murkomen of attempting to keep him out of Emurua Dikirr ahead of Friday’s rally, saying he had nevertheless managed to make it to the constituency.

Ngeno, who served as the Emurua Dikirr MP, died in February in a plane crash.
