Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has intensified his onslaught on his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua, blaming the former Deputy President’s political isolation for his impeachment and removal from office.

Addressing Mt Kenya East grassroots leaders at Kinoru Stadium in Meru County on Saturday, Kindiki said Gachagua should have been more humble and worked to build friendships across the political divide, including with Members of Parliament and governors.

Kindiki said Gachagua was a “fool” to have allowed himself to be impeached, arguing that stronger political relationships could have helped him retain his position.

“Saa hii, ata nikipata matatizo, ati hao mabunge watakua mbele kusema mimi nitolewe. Si nitakua mtu pumbavu kabisa…” he said.

This translates to, “Even if I were to run into trouble, MPs cannot be the ones first in line saying that I should be impeached. I would be a fool to allow that to happen.”

Kindiki continued, “Unafukuzwa na watoto… watu wadogo.”

This translates to, “You were chased by children, very small people.”

The Deputy President said he understands the importance of making friends in politics and would never put himself in a position where he could be removed from office through impeachment.

Kindiki also rejected suggestions that he played a role in Gachagua’s ouster, saying he was focused on his duties as Interior Cabinet Secretary at the time.

He said he had no hand in the impeachment process and was instead busy performing his responsibilities in the Interior Ministry.

Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly in October 2024.
