Uasin Gishu: GSU officer arrested after allegedly shooting woman dead

A 45-year-old woman was shot dead at a General Service Unit (GSU) Mess compound in Naiberi, Uasin Gishu County, following an altercation with a police officer who fled the scene before his arrest.

The victim, identified as Doris Murei Nandi, was killed instantly on Sunday evening, August 30, 2026, during a dispute with Police Constable Nathan Kirwa, who was armed with a rifle.

Senior security officials, led by Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani, rushed to the scene alongside forensic teams from the Crime Scene Investigators to piece together the tragic events.

According to the police, the shooting transpired at around 5:00 PM while the deceased was at the mess compound.

A disagreement erupted between Nandi and Constable Kirwa, escalating rapidly until the officer discharged his weapon, striking her multiple times.

Investigating officers recovered seven spent 9mm cartridges, a rifle holster, and a Toyota Corolla 110, all believed to belong to the suspect.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Eldoret Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death as part of the probe.

According to Commander Sicharani, the suspect has been arrested and is being presented at Eldoret Law Court for a miscellaneous application to finalize our investigation.
