Kenyan music couple Bahati and Diana Marua gave fans a rare peek into rural life when Bahati put his partner through a proper village test at his family home in Wote, Machakos County, in a video posted on Wednesday, September 2.
The light-hearted skit, filmed across a rustic homestead complete with mud-walled houses, dirt paths and an ox-drawn cart, saw Bahati frame the whole excursion as a “wife material” challenge, saying he needed to know whether Diana was truly worthy of marriage before he walked her down the aisle.
What chores did Diana Marua do?
Diana did not hold back. Armed with a panga, she headed into the bush to chop firewood, hauled the wood onto her head, and loaded it onto an ox-drawn carriage before making her way to an open-air kitchen.
The smoke proved relentless, forcing her to pull off her wig at one point, with tears streaming down her face as she persevered over the fire.
She then confidently chopped sukuma wiki and stirred a towering mound of ugali using Kavagara brand maize flour, eventually plating up the meal with vegetables and meat.
One moment that clearly caught Diana off guard was when Bahati’s relatives scooped brown water and told her that was what the family drank, drawing a visibly stunned reaction from her.
After the meal was served, Diana washed the hands of both Bahati and his grandfather as they sat beneath a tree, a gesture that clearly left an impression on the elder.
Bahati announced at the end of the video that his grandfather had officially approved Diana as wife material, adding that he would begin arrangements for the wedding.
The couple already share three children, a detail that did not go unnoticed by fans watching online.
