A burial dispute has broken out over the final resting place of Stoopid Boy, the Kenyan Arbantone artiste born Edgar, who passed away on August 27, with his father and a section of the family holding firmly opposing positions.

George William Ochieng Awili, the musician’s father, has made his stance clear: he wants Edgar buried in Alego, Siaya, pointing to a request his son made to him directly and repeatedly while he was still alive.

Why does Stoopid Boy’s father want him buried in Siaya?

He went further, emphasising that honouring that request is not negotiable for him.

“I have to fulfil my son’s wishes; I want the body of my son to be in Alego, Siaya.”

Ochieng’s brother, Eric Odhiambo, has stood firmly beside him on the matter. Odhiambo said the family’s collective desire is to give the late musician a peaceful send-off in line with what he asked for.

“We would really like to give Stoopid a very peaceful send-off because his wish was that, when he died, we should accompany him all the way to Siaya. He used to say that all the time,” Odhiambo said.

A family friend identified as Moses added that Edgar had been very specific about where he wanted to be buried.

“Edgar said once he dies, he should be buried in his father’s place, Siaya,” Moses said.

However, Moses also confirmed that not everyone in the family is aligned. Another group is reportedly pushing for the burial to take place in Nyandarua, where Stoopid Boy’s mother lives.

Moses said he had already spoken with the deceased’s maternal uncle at the police station as the parties attempted to reach an agreement.
