A Western Kenya couple has caused a stir online after naming their newborn daughter after nominated senator Karen Nyamu, with the politician herself weighing in on the sweet gesture.

Car modifier Papa Jones shared the video on Thursday, September 3.

In the clip, a woman identified as Mama Manu is seen seated and gently cradling the newborn, who is wrapped in colourful blankets.

What did Karen Nyamu say about namesake?

“I am here with Mama Manu, and she is carrying Karen Nyamu over there. I want to take her to a salon in Kisumu,” Papa Jones said in the video, with the mother smiling warmly as he spoke.

He added:

“We have welcomed Karen Nyamu. I added the name Awendo at the end.”

The senator did not let the moment pass without comment. Nyamu responded directly on the post, writing:

“Nimezaliwa huko western na serikali imenyamaza tu. Hongera sana mama Manu na Papa jones kwa baraka yenu. Great choice of name, huyu lazima akue roho juu, roho safi, apende watu na afanye mambo kubwa in her life. Mungu ambariki sana.”

Her response quickly attracted attention, with many fans tagging the senator and urging her to follow through with a tangible surprise for the family.
