Police in Mombasa have arrested a human rights activist and politician in connection with the disappearance of two Form Three students in the Kiembeni area of Kisauni Constituency, Mombasa County.
The suspect, Caleb Ng’wena, is accused of abducting the two minors on the night of August 24 after their parents sent them to a nearby shop to buy milk.
According to Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Noor, Ng’wena allegedly sent money to the two students using his personal assistant’s mobile number before ferrying them to Nairobi, where they spent more than two weeks.
Police say further investigations are underway to establish whether the human rights defender is linked to child trafficking.
