A TVET student has come forward with disturbing allegations that staff at a popular entertainment joint in Kasarani, Nairobi, held her captive for three days and physically assaulted her after her group reportedly failed to settle a KSh 15,000 bill.
Victoria Wangui Maina says she was left stranded at the club after the friends she had arrived with reportedly fled, leaving her to face the consequences alone.
She claims that during the three days she was held, she was denied food, a bath and a change of clothing.
“They beat me with a pipe”
Victoria alleges that bar staff came to the VIP section where she was seated and assaulted her in full view of the establishment’s management.
“They said we had not paid the bill and that’s why they had me in custody and beat me up, tore the clothes I was wearing and even hit me on the legs, back, stomach and hands with a pipe. I was at the VIP and waiters came to assault me physically as the management watched,” she said.
Victoria’s father has offered his own account of what may have led to the situation, alleging that his daughter was drugged by a Nigerian man who subsequently left her to shoulder the entire bill.
“I think that man drugged my daughter and left her with the bill. And that’s how my daughter ended up in this situation,” he said.
Family Accuses Police of Inaction
Victoria’s mother, Linda Peter, says she travelled to the club the day after the incident to negotiate her daughter’s release, but the bar owner refused to free the student unless the bill was settled. When the family returned, they found the premises locked.
Linda then reported the matter to Kasarani Police Station, but she alleges officers declined to record an occurrence book entry and instead instructed her to resolve the dispute directly with the bar management.
“When I went there, the bar owner said we pay, and they refused to set my daughter free. And when we returned we found they had locked the gate,” she said.
Victoria’s parents are now demanding the arrest and prosecution of the bar’s management, accusing them of unlawful detention and assault.
The family’s account has drawn attention to broader concerns about how entertainment establishments handle billing disputes and whether law enforcement agencies adequately protect members of the public in such situations.
The Kasarani OCPD was reportedly unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
