Kenyan gospel musician and philanthropist Karangu Muraya hit back on Monday, September 21, after his estranged first wife Triza Njeri went public with allegations that he had been failing their three children financially.
The fallout began when a blogger shared screenshots of what were purported to be Triza’s WhatsApp statuses. In them, she accused Karangu of photographing their children during outings and returning them home without taking care of essentials like school fees and food.
One of the alleged statuses read: “Watoto wangu sio project,” a pointed suggestion that the children were being used to polish his public image rather than being genuinely cared for.
What did Karangu Muraya say about his parenting?
Karangu wasted little time firing back. In a lengthy Facebook post accompanied by photos of himself with one of his young children, he made clear that his role as a father is not something he takes lightly.
“If there’s something that I will never joke with, it’s the welfare of my all kids…. i know it’s my responsibility and if you are there and you feel am not doing it to any of my kids kuja hapa unianike,” he wrote.
He went further, challenging anyone to point out a man in his position who neglects his children:
“Find someone else who does not pay house rent and food lakini si Karangu Muraya.”
The timing was particularly striking given that the former couple had recently appeared to turn a corner, publicly committing to a drama-free co-parenting arrangement. That truce now seems fragile.
This is not the first time the two have clashed publicly over the children. Triza recently claimed during a TikTok Live that she had personally taken over school fees payments and even moved their son Emmanuel from his boarding school after alleging Karangu had stopped contributing.
Karangu has previously countered that he covers household utility bills and provides shopping for the family.
