A video from Metamaywa in Kisii county has left many social media users unsettled after it captured what appeared to be a deeply unusual burial scene, with a coffin left in an open field attended by just two men while a larger crowd observed from across the road.
The footage, which spread rapidly online, showed one man seated on a plastic chair and another standing nearby, apparently arranging a small shelter over the casket.
The partly open coffin rested on a wooden table on an empty stretch of ground some distance from where the rest of the community had gathered.

Community members were seen seated on the grass or huddled in small groups on the opposite side of the road, watching from a distance without approaching the body.
Why the two men remained with the coffin while everyone else kept away, and why the burial was not held at a homestead, had not been officially explained by the time this article was published.
Efra Sufuria, who posted the video online, claimed the deceased allegedly died following a physical altercation with his mother.
“His mother slapped him. If you are a parent, please watch how you treat your children,” Sufuria wrote alongside the post.
The claim drew sharp attention online, with many viewers questioning whether the seclusion of the coffin was connected to the alleged circumstances of the death.
Others, however, urged caution, pointing out that grief can be deeply complicated and that appearances can be misleading.
