Fresh questions are swirling around the death of Derrick Omollo, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) digital creator whose body was recovered from a quarry in Juja on Tuesday, September 1 2026, after a postmortem examination returned deeply troubling findings.
Omollo, whose full name is recorded in official documents as Derrick Anungui Oyango, was 20 years old at the time of his death.
The examination was carried out at General Kago Road Funeral Home in Thika on Monday, September 7, with a reference from DCI Juja.
What did Derrick Omollo’s postmortem show?
The pathologist’s report documented a grim set of injuries.
Omollo’s skull showed obvious fractures, leaving visible deformity to the head.
He also sustained bilateral distal femur fractures, with the right leg presenting an open fracture and the left a closed one.
The examining doctor noted dried blood across his face and scalp, alongside bilateral bloody discharge from both ears and both nostrils, as well as raccoon eyes, a condition typically linked to basal skull fractures.
His blood-stained clothing included a long-sleeved shirt, a black T-shirt, and layered track pants.
Critically, the pathologist recorded no defensive injuries anywhere on Omollo’s body.
According to the police request form accompanying the postmortem, Omollo had been in the company of friends when a group of four armed men reportedly attacked them.
During the incident, the form states that he fell into an open quarry and succumbed to his injuries. The absence of defensive wounds, however, has drawn significant scrutiny online.
Many Kenyans have questioned whether the account of a frenzied flight from armed robbers is consistent with the injuries documented, particularly the bilateral femur fractures and the severity of the skull damage.
Several commenters have called on investigators to bring in the friends present that night for formal questioning.
