A South African woman who relocated to Australia at the age of 49 has opened up about just how difficult that transition really was, and her honesty has clearly touched a nerve.
Posting under the handle @thephoenixat55 on TikTok, she filmed herself in her Australian kitchen and shared the video on September 5, 2026.
She did not paint the move as a triumphant adventure.
Instead, she was upfront about how different life abroad felt compared to what she had expected, and how long it took to find solid ground.

Through the hardest stretches of her adjustment, she leaned on something her late father used to say whenever the family faced difficult seasons:
“Hard times never kill, they come and pass.”
Those words became an anchor for her when the uncertainty of starting over felt heaviest. Only with time was she able to look back and recognize the resilience she had quietly built.
