A Nairobi boda rider has sent social media into a frenzy after filming himself unboxing a brand-new iPhone 18 Pro Max 512GB by the roadside, next to his motorcycle, boldly claiming the title of “first boda guy to own an iPhone 18 Pro Max 512GB.”
The video showed the rider speaking directly to the camera in a proud and slightly defensive tone, clearly addressing sceptics who doubted the purchase was genuine.
“Let us unwrap it,” he announced before peeling off the seals on the box one by one.
He then turned the camera to show the charging cable still neatly wrapped and removed the protective film from the screen before powering the phone on, determined to prove he had not bought a display unit or a second-hand set.
The clip ends on a surprising political note, with the rider declaring, “Stay guided and it is tutam,” a reference to two terms for President William Ruto.
What has Kenyans talking is the sheer contrast. The iPhone 18 Pro Max currently retails for over KSh 200,000 in Kenya, while a standard boda boda motorcycle starts from around KSh 120,000, meaning the phone in his hand is worth more than the machine he uses to earn a living.
The clip quickly racked up comments, with Kenyans torn between admiration, suspicion, and outright humour.
