Popular educator and content creator Teacher Cillah has expressed deep distress after coming across photos showing the learning conditions at Eldepe Comprehensive School in Baringo South’s Marigat Ward, calling on Kenyans to take the state of public education seriously.
On Monday, September 28, Cillah posted the images on social media alongside a caption that left little room for interpretation: “The situation is worse than we think!”
What did Teacher Cillah say about Baringo school?
Three photos told the story. The first showed a long, low shed held together by rusted corrugated iron sheets caked in mud halfway up the walls, with dark doorways and small square openings serving as windows.
Over the image, Cillah wrote
“Aaaiii noooo!” and questioned why teachers should be expected to hold fundraisers just to put up a school building.
The second photo, taken inside the school, showed pupils crammed onto rough wooden desks on a bare dirt floor. Light crept in through gaps in the tin walls, and a blackboard was fixed to a stone-and-mud partition at the back.
The third photo was perhaps the most striking: an entire class seated on benches beneath a large acacia tree, a chalkboard propped in the shade, more tin structures visible in the background.
Cillah wrote over it:
“2026? Children are studying under a tree?”
Her questions in the caption were pointed. What happens when it rains? What happens in strong wind? What happens when the sun bears down? She also noted that the school has teachers posted by the Teachers Service Commission, meaning the government is fully aware of its existence.
“Where does the CDF money go?” she asked, adding that she wanted to know whether anyone was on the ground checking the quality of education being delivered.
The post drew swift responses from followers and fellow public figures.
Abel Mutua wrote simply:

@clardi_ offered a more cryptic jab:
“Tell your crush to ask his dad.”

Cillah closed her caption with a plea that captured the mood of many:
“I have so many questions… aki tukue serious!”
