A Kenyan woman has issued a public apology after police briefly detained her over a viral video in which she deliberately soiled her neighbour’s laundry with dirty water.
Aziza Atienza found herself in custody following the incident, which she framed as retaliation after a frustrating dispute over shared clotheslines.
According to Atienza, the trouble began when one of her neighbours removed her duvet from the line and dropped it. She retrieved it, rinsed it and put it back up, only for the same neighbour to throw it into a neighbouring plot.
The repeated interference pushed her over the edge.
“While I was struggling to put it back, I lost two nails in the process, so I chose to remain toxic,” she explained.

Her response was to mix dirt with water and pour it over the neighbour’s hanging clothes, capturing the entire act on camera while she did so.
The neighbour, angered by the act, reported the matter to police, who took Atienza in for questioning before releasing her.
Upon her release, Atienza recorded a video addressing both the neighbour she wronged and her online following. She did not attempt to justify what she had done, instead acknowledging that her emotions had driven her to behave in a way she now regrets.
“I want to apologise fully for my recent actions and behaviour. It was very uncalled for, and emotions were high, intentions were high, but that was not an excuse, so I take full responsibility for what I did and how I made others feel. To the person whom I wronged, I am truly sorry; you did not deserve that from me, and I know that I need to do better. I am learning I will do better moving forward. I really hope that you can forgive me, and I hope we can move past this with respect,” Atienza said.
The apology video drew significant attention online, with many viewers weighing in on whether the original grievance justified her actions and whether the public confession was sufficient to repair the neighbourly relationship.
