Kenyan nurse and content creator Judy Maina, widely known online as Nurse Judy, has left her life in the United States on hold to fly back to Tanzania and be with her family, sharing a candid and tearful video that resonated deeply with her followers.
In the Instagram reel she posted in September 2026, filmed in a hotel hallway surrounded by luggage and inside a moving car, Judy could barely contain her excitement.
“I am so happy, guys, in a way that I can explain in words,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion.
“They heal me. They complete me. And that’s the only thing that I want right now.”
Years of distance finally over
Judy relocated to California roughly four and a half years ago and successfully secured a Green Card, building a career as a nurse. Her husband, Denis Pasha, and their two children stayed behind in Tanzania.
A US consular immigration process intended to bring the family together has since stretched on for close to three years, leaving her navigating American life entirely on her own.
Despite earning well as a nurse, the emotional toll became too heavy to ignore. She told her followers she was exhausted from returning to an empty house each evening, missing her children’s birthdays and watching them grow up through a phone screen.
“I am tired of being alone in America. I am tired of that. I am tired of suffering alone here,” she said in the video, making no effort to dress up the pain she had been carrying.
What pushed her to make the move?
Judy also revealed that her return had been delayed by a setback. She had originally planned to visit another country before heading to Tanzania, but complications forced her to push the dates back.
After weeks of waiting and what she described as “disappearing” from social media for about 10 days, she was finally on her way.
“I’ve been so empty the last couple of weeks. I’ve been empty empty,” she admitted, before breaking into celebration the moment the trip became real.
Proudly Kenyan, Judy has built her life in Tanzania alongside her husband, and her social media presence has consistently reflected that dual identity.
Her decision to temporarily step back from career opportunities in the US to prioritise her family struck a chord with many in the diaspora who understand the quiet cost of chasing greener pastures far from home.
