Daystar University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro has paid a deeply moving tribute to his late wife, Agnes Ayiro, who passed away at the age of 71, describing her as an irreplaceable companion who shaped the very story of his life.
In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the professor opened his heart to the public, reflecting on five decades of marriage, friendship and shared faith with the woman he called one of God’s greatest gifts.
“My beloved Agnes, for fifty (50) years, you have been my wife, my friend, and one of God’s greatest gifts to my life,” he wrote. “My heart is heavy with grief, yet full of gratitude. I cannot tell the story of my life without telling yours.”
The tribute was as much a celebration of a life well-lived as it was a farewell. Prof. Ayiro expressed gratitude for fifty years of companionship, anchoring his grief in the hope of his Christian faith.
Ayiro thanks God for his wife
“The God who brought life to the dry bones holds you now,” he wrote, drawing on biblical imagery to find solace in loss. “May He comfort our children and all who loved you. Rest in His peace, my wife, my friend, my Agnes. Until we meet again.”
The post quickly captured the attention of many Kenyans, moved by the raw tenderness with which the academic leader spoke of his wife.
For a man known in professional circles for his leadership in higher education, the tribute revealed a deeply personal side, that of a devoted husband whose world was quietly anchored by the woman beside him.
