Heartbreaking details have emerged about one of the victims of the helicopter crash that claimed the life of Zimbabwean business tycoon Wicknell Chivayo on September 30.

Captain Courage Mutavirwa, who was the co-pilot of the ill-fated helicopter, had been married for only seven months when he perished in the crash.

The crash, which occurred at Kudenga farm in Marondera, also claimed the lives of Chivayo’s wife Lucy, her personal aide Senelisiwe Magagula, and Captain Kelvin T. Soda, alongside Mutavirwa.

The group had allegedly been travelling to a rural home that Chivayo and his wife had been constructing when the aircraft went down.

Captain Courage Mutavirwa’s Marriage Cut Short Mutavirwa, who served as co-pilot on the ill-fated flight, had reportedly walked down the aisle in March 2026.

His death came roughly seven months after his wedding, leaving his young wife to grieve alone while carrying their unborn child.

The knowledge that the baby will grow up never having met their father has deepened the sorrow felt by those close to the family.

Mutavirwa was raised in Section 66, Triangle, where his father served as the area’s clerk. He completed his primary education at Mpapa Primary School before proceeding to Mtilikwi Secondary School for his secondary studies.

The trajectory of his life, from a modest upbringing in Triangle to the cockpit of a helicopter, spoke to a man of ambition and discipline.

Families Left to Grieve

The five deaths from the crash have sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe, with each victim leaving behind loved ones now struggling to come to terms with their loss.

For the Mutavirwa family, the grief is compounded by the cruel timing: a new marriage, a child on the way, and a future that will never be.

As the country mourns, the stories of those who perished alongside Chivayo serve as a reminder that behind every name in a tragedy is a life full of promise, love, and plans that were never meant to end so soon.
