Zimbabwe’s Prophet Walter Magaya took questions from journalists outside Wicknell Chivayo’s Gletwin mansion on Friday, October 2, 2026, just days after the flamboyant businessman and his wife Lucy perished in a helicopter crash near Marondera on Wednesday evening, September 30, 2026.

Footage of Magaya’s remarks, captured by ZTN Prime and Star FM during an outdoor nighttime interview, quickly spread online and drew fierce public debate.

Why Magaya Says the Death Was Not Predicted

The question Magaya chose to answer was one that had been circulating loudly since news of the crash broke. A journalist put it to him plainly: with so many prophets active in Zimbabwe, why had none of them seen this coming?

Magaya turned to the book of Corinthians in his response, arguing that the ability to receive prophetic revelation was not limited to ordained prophets but open to any believer.

He added that divine disclosure was ultimately selective, stating that “the Lord reveals what he wants and hides what he wants.” His position was that Chivayo’s death was one of those things God chose to conceal, from prophets and ordinary Christians alike.

Before the prophecy question came up, Magaya spoke about Chivayo’s character and ambitions, claiming the businessman had detailed plans stored on his phone to build hospitals, schools and stadiums across Zimbabwe.

“I will shock you with the news on my phone where he was planning to do the hospitals that other people are crying for,” Magaya told reporters, describing himself as part of those plans.

Social Media Users React to Magaya’s Remarks

The explanation did not sit well with many viewers. Online reactions ranged from scepticism to outright mockery.

@wyd_kw wrote: “I often wonder about people who follow tripe prophets like this guy. Are they really gullible and believe it, or do these guys think others are that gullible and will believe it? I didn’t need to open the video to know he was saying something offside.”

@SamasukuEbrahim raised a contradiction many were thinking about: “My only challenge is people are being told to pay $10, $50, etc., in exchange for help and protection. If one can pay millions and there is no protection.”

@prazimar was cynical about the delivery itself: “Magaya was waiting for this moment; he prepared for exactly this moment. This is scripted, rehearsed countless times in the mirror. 😂”

@mitimitaics pointed to conflicting narratives: “The other prophet said he knew his time was up. The other saying he was planning for the future.”

@jazzysalvador2 questioned Chivayo’s unfulfilled legacy: “How many years did he have to at least build a small clinic with 2 rooms before we talk of a hospital?”
