Ugly scenes as Kariobangi Sharks vs Mombasa United playoff disrupted after pitch invasion

The heated Football Kenya Federation Premier League 2026/27 promotion/relegation second-leg play-off between Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, was disrupted after fans protesting poor officiating invaded the pitch.

The irate Sharks fans were protesting against a controversial penalty awarded to Mombasa United in the second half, as Kariobangi Sharks were leading 2-1, making the tie 3-3 on aggregate.

The reverse fixture at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Thursday, October 1, 2026 ended, making the tie to be decided in Nairobi.

First Assistant: Jane Cherono

Second Assistant: Gladys Kamuren

Fourth Official: Israel Mpaima

Match Commissioner: Nasur Doka

Sulwe was given the central referee role for the crucial playoff after he officiated in a similar capacity in just two matches last season, spending most of the campaign as a fourth official.
