Gen Z Baddie has questioned the timing of Kenya’s first confirmed Ebola case, linking the announcement to recent political developments in the country.

In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, October 7, 2026, Gen Z Baddie reacted to the announcement made by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale a day earlier, saying she was surprised the President was not the one who announced the case.

“I’m surprised it’s not the President who did it, but anyway,” she said.

Her comments came after the Ministry of Health confirmed Kenya’s first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Gen Z Baddie questions the timing

While reacting to the announcement, Gen Z Baddie said she did not believe events in Kenya happened by coincidence.

“And I want to show you guys that nothing is a coincidence in this country. Nothing is a coincidence. Kila kitu kinakuaga kimepangwa strategically, including death, as I always say. Wacha tuangalie hii maneno ya Ebola,” she said.

She then raised questions about international funding for Ebola response, claiming that an Ebola fundraiser had recently raised billions of dollars.

She suggested that such funding could create financial interests around countries affected by the virus. However, she did not provide evidence linking the Kenyan Ebola case to the alleged funding or establish that the government would benefit financially from the outbreak.

Linking Ebola to political gatherings

Gen Z Baddie also connected the timing of the Ebola announcement to recent political activity in Kenya. “Are they saying this Ebola kidogo kidogo tusikie no gatherings, kidogo kidogo tusikie no rallies, kidogo kidogo, you get?” she said.

The World Health Organization has said Kenya’s response is focused on surveillance, contact tracing, screening at high-risk points of entry and community engagement. It has also said there is currently no basis for restrictions on travel or trade involving Kenya, the DRC or Uganda based on the available information.

Kenya had been preparing for Ebola

Kenya’s Ebola preparedness did not begin with Tuesday’s announcement. The Ministry of Health said the country had been on heightened alert since May, following outbreaks of Bundibugyo virus disease in the DRC and Uganda.

Her comments have therefore added a political angle to an otherwise health-focused announcement, although the claims she raised about the timing of the Ebola case and its possible connection to political events remain her views and have not been established by health authorities.
