Wicknell Chivayo’s wife Lucy’s sister broke down as she paid an emotional tribute to the couple, revealing that they had celebrated their wedding in March 2025, barely 19 months before their deaths.
Speaking during the couple’s burial ceremony in Harare on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Lucy’s sister described her late sibling as a woman whose remarkable problem-solving skills and vast knowledge earned her the affectionate nickname “Doctor”.
She said Lucy was widely regarded as a source of knowledge within her circles, with those around her turning to her for solutions and guidance whenever they encountered difficult situations.
“She was also known as Doctor because of her problem-solving skills and the wealth of knowledge that she was always willing to share,” she said.
The sister then turned to one of the most significant chapters in Lucy’s life, revealing that she married the flamboyant Zimbabwean businessman in March 2025.
She described the wedding as a beautiful and memorable celebration of love, attended by the couple’s relatives and close friends.
“And then it was in March 2025 that Lucy married her beloved husband Wicknell Chivayo in a beautiful and memorable celebration of love, surrounded by family and friends,” she said.

The revelation means the couple had been married for only about a year and seven months before their deaths, making the loss particularly painful for those who watched them begin their life together.
Lucy’s sister said there had been little doubt about the depth of the couple’s relationship, describing their bond as one marked by love, friendship and devotion.
She also spoke of their shared commitment to their faith, portraying their marriage as a union that went beyond companionship and was deeply rooted in their beliefs.
“There was no doubt of their love, friendship and devotion to each other and their commitment to their faith,” she said.
The sister’s tribute then shifted from memories of Lucy’s personality and marriage to the devastating reality facing the family as they laid the couple to rest.
She mourned the loss of both Lucy and Chivayo, saying their time with their loved ones had been painfully short.
“Today we mourn the heartbreaking loss of Lucy and Wicknell. Your time with us was far too short, and you leave behind cherished memories of laughter, compassion and deep love for family and friends,” she said.
The couple were laid to rest at Sahwira Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare on Thursday, October 8, following funeral rites that drew family, friends and prominent figures.
Their final farewell came a day after their elaborate coffins attracted widespread attention, with Chivayo’s white coffin featuring a luxury car-inspired design while Lucy’s was styled in the likeness of a Mercedes-Maybach.
