Kenyan TikToker and comedian Bill Rono, popularly known as Ronoo, has recounted the heartbreaking final moments of his mother, Rebecca Chebet Maru, revealing how she suddenly developed breathing difficulties at home before the family rushed her to hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Speaking during his mother’s memorial service at AIC Milimani on Friday, October 9, 2026, Ronoo recalled how Rebecca had appeared well the previous evening and had continued with her usual activities before the unexpected medical emergency the following morning.
According to Ronoo, his mother had no known underlying health problems beyond occasional minor illnesses and had shown no signs of discomfort during the evening before her death.
He said that on October 1, Rebecca went about her normal activities at home after visiting Talanta Stadium with her workmates. She later had dinner with her family, with nothing suggesting that she was about to experience a medical emergency.
“Rebecca had never experienced any underlying health issue beyond the occasional minor illnesses until the morning of her passing. She had remained well and continued with her usual routine. On October 1, Rebecca went about her normal activities at home after visiting Talanta Stadium with her workmates. She later had dinner with her family and showed no sign of illness or discomfort,” he shared.
After dinner, Rebecca helped prepare her husband’s clothes because he was scheduled to leave at 5am the following morning with colleagues to attend the burial of a colleague’s relative.
Having completed the preparations, she returned to bed, with the family unaware that the following morning would take a devastating turn.
Rebecca developed breathing difficulties at home
Ronoo recalled that his mother woke up at around 9.30am the following morning and had breakfast with her children before going upstairs to take a shower.
However, at approximately 10.40am, Rebecca complained of having difficulty breathing, prompting her son Brandon to act immediately.
Brandon called an Uber as the family scrambled to help their mother, with the other children assisting her into the waiting vehicle so that she could receive medical attention.
“The following morning, she woke up at around 9.30am, had breakfast with her children and then went upstairs to take a shower. At 10.40am, she complained of having difficulty breathing and her son Brandon immediately called an Uber. With the help of the other children, they assisted her into the waiting car,” he said.
Ronoo said the family hoped to get her medical assistance, but by the time they arrived at the facility, her condition had deteriorated and she was unresponsive.
“Throughout the journey to Metropolitan Hospital, she continued struggling to breathe. By the time they arrived, she had become unresponsive. She was declared dead on arrival,” he said.
