Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho is back in the headlines, and this time it is not for politics. The former Mombasa governor has turned heads after showing off a brand-new Ferrari Purosangue, a car valued at KSh 105 million.

A video shared online captured Joho posing next to the striking Italian machine, which arrived finished in Ferrari’s signature Rosso red. The footage has since spread widely across Kenyan social media platforms.

Ferrari’s first four-door machine

The Purosangue is no ordinary car. Ferrari itself refuses to classify it as an SUV, preferring to call it a “Ferrari Utility Vehicle.” It is the first four-door, four-seat model the brand has ever produced, and it comes loaded with serious performance credentials.

Underneath the bonnet sits a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 725 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and can reach a top speed of over 310 km/h.

Distinctive rear-hinged back doors give occupants easier access to the individual rear seats, a feature that adds to its exclusivity.

On pricing, the factory base cost sits at around $430,000 (approximately KSh 55.7 million), though market prices in Dubai and the United States range from $480,000 to $550,000 given the car’s limited production numbers.

Once shipping, customs duties and other import costs are factored in, the Kenya landed price sits between KSh 100 million and KSh 115 million. At KSh 105 million, Joho’s unit lands right in the middle of that estimate, making it arguably the most expensive SUV currently on Kenyan roads.

Joho’s garage gets an upgrade

The Purosangue is the newest addition to a collection that was already the envy of many. Joho’s garage is reported to include a Bentley Mulsanne worth over KSh 30 million, a Ferrari California valued at KSh 37 million, a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon at KSh 17 million, as well as a Porsche Cayenne and several BMW models.

The Cabinet Secretary has long been associated with a high-end lifestyle, from luxury timepieces to designer fashion. He once revealed that his first major paycheque, earned at age 20 through clearing and forwarding work, was KSh 6.6 million. The KSh 105 million Ferrari purchase represents quite the leap from those early days.
