George Ruto’s iconic Zoro matatu has found itself back at the workshop, with a video circulating online showing the vehicle in a noticeably stripped-down state just months after its high-profile transformation.
The footage, shared on Tuesday, October 13, by insiders in Nairobi’s matatu culture scene, captured the vehicle at a repair workshop where technicians were attending to its front section.

The customised bumper that gave the matatu its aggressive, anime-inspired look had been fully detached from the vehicle’s body.
Beyond the missing bumper, the windscreen and the specially fitted lights that make the matatu instantly recognisable had also been removed.
espite the extent of the work being carried out, the rest of the vehicle’s body appeared to be in decent shape.
The bold green paintwork that defines the Zoro theme was still clearly visible, with the damage appearing confined to the front section.
The cause of the damage has not been officially confirmed, and it remains unclear whether the bumper is being repaired or replaced entirely.
However, reports circulating online suggest the matatu could make a comeback with a new or refurbished front end that may even enhance its appearance.
The matatu was previously known as Matrix before undergoing a major makeover that swapped its original themed artwork for a design inspired by Roronoa Zoro, the popular character from the anime series One Piece.
The vehicle kept its signature green colour throughout the transformation, though the shift in concept drew mixed reactions from Nairobi matatu enthusiasts.
Some embraced the new direction while others felt a strong attachment to the original Matrix identity.
