Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho is back in the public eye after footage of him posing beside a brand new Ferrari Purosangue went viral on Kenyan social media.

The clip, which circulated widely this week, shows the former Mombasa Governor in his signature designer look standing next to the striking red Italian machine and the internet has not stopped talking since.

Here is a look at the cars that make up one of Kenya’s most talked-about garages.

1. Ferrari Purosangue KSh 105 million

The newest addition is also the crown jewel. Ferrari itself refuses to classify the Purosangue as an SUV, preferring the term “Ferrari Utility Vehicle.” It holds a unique place in the brand’s history as the first ever four-door, four-seat production model to roll out of Maranello.

Powering it is a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 725 horsepower, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 310 km/h.

It also features distinctive rear-hinged back doors. Factory pricing starts at around $430,000 (roughly KSh 55.7 million), but after shipping, customs and import taxes, the Kenyan landed cost sits between KSh 100 million and KSh 115 million, placing Joho’s unit among the priciest cars on Kenyan roads.

2. Bentley Mulsanne over KSh 30 million

According to Kenyans.co.ke, the gold-plated limousine grabbed national attention when Joho arrived in it at the Boyz II Men concert at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, on 10 June 2023. Stretching 5.57 metres in length with hand-stitched leather, polished wood and chrome accents inside, the Mulsanne is valued at over KSh 30 million before any customisation.

3. Ferrari California KSh 37 million

Before the Purosangue, the California was Joho’s supercar statement. This two-door convertible is powered by a front-mid mounted 4.3-litre V8 engine and is valued at KSh 37 million. He was also previously spotted in a Ferrari 458 Italia Convertible worth KSh 26 million.

4. Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon KSh 17 million

A staple of Kenya’s wealthy class, the G-Wagon in Joho’s fleet is estimated at KSh 17 million. Its boxy, military-inspired silhouette makes it a recognisable sight on both Nairobi and Mombasa roads.

5. Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga

The garage does not stop there. Reports place a Bentley Bentayga diesel valued at KSh 21 million and a customised Porsche Cayenne worth about KSh 14 million among his assets, alongside Range Rovers, BMW M5 Series, a Mercedes-Benz SLK and E-Class models.

How Joho built His wealth

Joho has spoken publicly about earning his first major paycheque of KSh 6.6 million at age 20 through clearing and forwarding work at the Port of Mombasa. He later built interests in logistics firms including Autoports Freight Terminals, Portside Freight Terminals and East African Terminals.

His estimated net worth stands at around KSh 2.5 billion, which includes a Nyali mansion valued at KSh 390 million and a Eurocopter worth KSh 245 million. His combined car collection is now reported to be worth well over KSh 200 million.
