A fourth-year law student in Kenya has taken a bold and public step to tackle an outstanding fee balance of KSh 369,460, turning her financial pressure into a documented journey on TikTok that has already drawn an outpouring of support from strangers.
The student, who goes by Gichuru on the platform, launched her series on October 14, 2026, filming herself as she set out on what he described as Day 1 of his job hunt.
Rather than suffering in silence, she chose to document every step, including
Her framing of the challenge was direct and resolute. “I’ll share every application, interview, rejection, and win along the way because this degree must be paid for,” she stated as she kicked off the series.
Well-wisher pays KSh 60 towards Gichuru’s fee balance
On her first day, she focused on applying for online jobs and working through assessments while juggling the weight of a six-figure fee balance hanging over her final year.
The response was immediate. By Day 2, Gichuru reported that someone had already contributed KSh 60 toward the balance, reducing it from KSh 369,460 to KSh 369,400. Small as the figure was, the gesture clearly meant a great deal to her.
“Whoever has paid that KSh 60 from the KSh 369, 460, may you be blessed😭❤️❤️🙏 now it’s KSh 369,400 more to go,” she wrote. By her second day of documenting the journey, goodwill had grown noticeably.
Gichuru appreciates Kenyans for coming through
“It’s already the second day documenting this, and people have offered so much 😭 thank you to each and every one of you,” Gichuru said, visibly moved by the solidarity from people who had come across her videos.
Her story has resonated widely, particularly among Kenyans who understand the weight of fee balances that can block graduation, withhold transcripts, or bar students from sitting final examinations.
For many university students, the final year is the most financially demanding, and Gichuru’s willingness to face that reality openly has struck a chord with her growing audience.
