Winnie Odinga found herself in an unwanted race against time on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after Kenya Airways delayed her flight just as she was trying to travel home for her father’s first death anniversary.
October 15 marks exactly one year since former Kenyan prime minister and opposition leader Raila Odinga passed away while receiving medical treatment in India.
Was Winnie Odinga’s flight delayed?
The anniversary has been observed through a three-day programme of memorial activities running from October 13 to October 15.
Events held across those three days brought together people from different generations to honour Raila’s life and legacy.
The main memorial service and public gathering are taking place today at the Migwena Cultural Grounds in Bondo, Siaya county, drawing family members, political leaders and members of the public.
On the eve of the main service, Winnie shared a notification screengrab showing that her Kenya Airways flight had been allegedly cancelled, adding a pointed caption:
“One day we will have a talk about this airline.”
Shortly after, she posted a photograph of a single lit candle. She wrote nothing more than one word beneath it:
“Dad.”
Newsunplug.co.ke established that the flight had been delayed, not cancelled.
Kenya Airways flight KQ765 experienced a delay from Johannesburg. Despite this initial delay, the flight made up time in the air and ultimately landed early at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
