Former Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka has opened up about completing his master’s degree, revealing a milestone that caught many of his followers off guard.

Kilavuka, who led Kenya Airways as Chief Executive Officer before his departure, recently shared a graduation post on Instagram after completing a Master’s degree in Business Psychology at London Metropolitan University.

In his caption, he acknowledged that many people had been pressing him about pursuing a doctorate, unaware that he had not yet obtained a postgraduate qualification.

“I have been asked by many people when I plan to pursue my doctorate, not knowing that, until a few weeks ago, I did not even have a master’s degree,” he wrote.

Allan Kilavuka’s graduation message

Rather than viewing the late timing as a shortcoming, Kilavuka used his graduation post to encourage others to resist societal pressure around academic milestones.

He described the decision to pursue the degree at this stage of his career as deliberate, tied to a long-held aspiration of one day becoming a lecturer.

“In pursuit of a lifelong dream of one day becoming a lecturer, I recently graduated from London Metropolitan University with a degree in Business Psychology,” he said, adding that sharing the occasion with his wife and former KQ colleagues made it especially meaningful.

He concluded with a message to his fellow graduates: “Success does not have to look the same for everyone, and your journey does not have to resemble your neighbor’s to be worthwhile.”
