‎Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has drawn widespread criticism after making a series of provocative remarks about Winnie Odinga at a political rally over the weekend, including a comment that he would find her a husband.

The outspoken MP is eyeing the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election and has been running what he described as a quiet grassroots campaign.

Winnie’s entry into the race appears to have changed his tone entirely.

‎What did Jalang’o tell Winnie Odinga?

Standing before a charged crowd, Jalang’o delivered an emphatic declaration of his ambitions, repeating twice for effect:

‎”This is the senator for Nairobi.”

‎He spoke about his journey from Homa Bay as proof that no obstacle was too large, asking his supporters:

‎”Is there anything I am unable to achieve?”

‎The MP claimed President William Ruto was backing his bid, and said he intended to apply “pressure” on Winnie throughout the campaign period.

‎It was in this context that he made the remark that sparked the most outrage.

‎”I must find her a man. Should I find her a man or not?” he told the crowd.

Jalang’o also mapped out a two-stage battle plan against Winnie. He said he would first beat her during the Orange Democratic Movement nominations, and predicted that she would then switch political parties after losing.

His message was that it would not matter:

‎”I will also show her dust in the new party, and I will become the senator for Nairobi.”

‎Winnie Odinga’s bid for the Nairobi Senate seat

‎Winnie is the daughter of the late veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025.

She has been positioning herself for a significant political role, and her interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat has drawn considerable attention, given her family’s deep ties to ODM and the broader opposition movement.

Jalang’o, on the other hand, has long aligned himself with the Ruto administration following a well-publicised political shift that saw him move away from his earlier association with the Odinga camp.

His remarks signal he is prepared for a bruising contest, both within ODM and in the general election, should he secure the nomination.

‎The comment about finding Winnie a husband in particular was viewed by many as an unnecessary jab unbecoming of a sitting lawmaker, and it is likely to follow him as the 2027 campaigns heat up.
