A man with disability from Uasin Gishu County has spent more than four decades holding onto a single piece of paper, a handwritten note he says came from none other than President William Ruto, his former schoolmate.

Francis says the two were classmates at Wareng High School back in 1983, and that the note, which Ruto reportedly addressed to him using the term “namesake,” has been his most treasured possession ever since.

Now, after all these years, his one wish is to sit face to face with the man who now holds the highest office in Kenya.

Francis waits to reunite with William Ruto after over 4 decades

In a conversation with Newsunplug.co.ke, Francis explained that the handwritten note has served as a lasting reminder of the bond they once shared as young students.

He described the two of them as having been in the same classroom, and said Ruto’s words at the time reflected the kind of ambition that would eventually carry him to the presidency.

Moreover, he has made multiple attempts over the years to arrange a reunion, but none have succeeded. His most significant breakthrough came in the form of a phone call from Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, though a face-to-face meeting with President Ruto has remained out of reach.

Disability Advocate Shares His Plea

Hoping to widen his appeal, Francis turned to disability advocate Jonathan Metet, who took the story to social media and called on leaders with close ties to the president to step in and help make the reunion happen.

Francis said his goal is not complicated. He wants to congratulate his old friend in person for the political journey that took him from the classrooms of Wareng High School to State House, and to share in the memories that only the two of them carry.

“My greatest wish is to reconnect with him after all these decades apart,” Francis told Newsunplug.co.ke, adding that he still cherishes the note as proof of a friendship formed long before either of them could have imagined where life would lead.

He remains hopeful that with the right people listening, the reunion he has waited 40 years for will finally come to pass.
