A British woman known as Melinda Lucy on social media has narrated how she claims to have lost Ksh 30 million to her Kenyan ex-boyfriend after falling in love with him and investing in business ideas he introduced to her.

In her account, Lucy said she met the man in Nairobi and believed he was the person she would spend her life with. She described him as charming, God-fearing and well-spoken, adding that she was attracted to the way he treated her.

“I didn’t lose 30 million in a casino. I lost it to love,” Lucy said in a lengthy TikTok post on Wednesday, October, 21, 2026.

She explained that she was still young when they met and did not pay enough attention to his plans for the future. According to her, his dream was to move to her foreign country rather than build a life in Kenya.

At the time, Lucy said she believed he wanted them to have a better future together. She recalled that he bought her flowers during the first month of their relationship before beginning to talk about building a future together.

“Babe, we need to build together,” Lucy quoted him as saying during their third month together.

How the business deals began

Lucy said the business idea came in the sixth month of their relationship. She explained that her boyfriend encouraged her to invest her money instead of leaving it in the bank.

“Babe, you are smart, but you keep your money in the bank sleeping. Let me show you how we do business here,” she quoted him as saying.

She said the proposed deals included land, trucks and a tender that allegedly had guaranteed government payment. According to Lucy, the man had documents, knew people in offices and used an M-Pesa Till that appeared to receive regular payments.

“Everything looked real,” Lucy said in her account.

She explained that she began by investing Ksh500,000, which she said came back with a profit. The result encouraged her to invest a larger amount as she continued to trust him.

Lucy said she later invested Ksh 2 million and again received what she described as a profit. She explained that these early returns strengthened her confidence in the business arrangements and deepened her feelings for the man.

“He was building my trust, and I was falling deeper in love,” Lucy said.

Lucy then said the man later asked for Ksh30 million and said it would multiply to Ksh45 million in 60 days.

Lucy said she sent Ksh 30 million before her boyfriend became unreachable for three hours the day after the transfer. She explained that excuses followed, including a claim that he was in a meeting in Mombasa.

According to her, she reported the case to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and got a lawyer.
