Hair and makeup artist John Mokuna Mungai, widely known as Jony the hairdresser, has explained why he uses ladies’ bathrooms, saying his dressing and physical appearance often make him pass as a woman rather than a man.

The cross-dresser shared the explanation when asked where he goes to the bathroom, saying he chooses the ladies’ facilities because of how people may perceive him. He also spoke about the need to be careful when going to clubs.

“The ladies. Because I speak for myself, I pass as a lady more than a guy. And that is why I have witnessed. I pass as a lady because of the dressing. I don’t have a lot of facial hair; my voice is not that deep,” Jony, the hairdresser, said on Thursday, October 22, 2026, during an interview with Kwambox.

Jony explained that his appearance and voice contribute to people seeing him as a woman. He said he does not have much facial hair and his voice is not very deep, which are among the reasons he believes he passes as a lady. His remarks came as he responded to a question about his choice of bathroom.

The hairdresser also shared his experience with cross-dressing in social spaces, saying he has learnt to take precautions when visiting clubs. He explained that he informs bouncers about his identity before entering, so they know he is a man. Jony said this helps avoid possible misunderstandings while he is at the club.
