66 workers traced after Eastleigh building collapse

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed on 24 October 2026 that 66 of the 67 construction workers who had been on site at the time of the collapse had been traced and accounted for.

One worker remained unlocated, with search teams combing through debris for any sign of survivors who may have been inside or in the vicinity of the structure when it came down.

“Our teams remain on site with multi-agency partners,” the Kenya Red Cross stated, urging calm while emphasising that the operation was still active.

The collapse on Yusuf Haji Avenue sent shockwaves through Eastleigh, one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial hubs, where construction activity is a constant feature of the rapidly growing neighbourhood.

The incident underscored the dangers faced by workers on building sites across the city.

For families waiting anxiously for news, the Kenya Red Cross set up a tracing desk directly at the scene to help relatives confirm the status of their loved ones.

Those unable to visit the site in person were urged to call the toll-free line 1199 for assistance.

The multi-agency response, which brought together rescue personnel from several organisations, pointed to the scale and complexity of the operation as teams worked carefully through the rubble.

As evening approached on Saturday, the fate of the one unaccounted-for worker remained the focus of all attention at the site, with rescue teams showing no signs of standing down.
