Betty Bayo’s teenage son Danny has spoken out about why he refuses to live with his biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, in an emotional video that has since gone viral online.

The clip, posted to TikTok on October 26, 2026, was filmed in what appears to be a home dining area.

Danny, partially off-camera at his own request, speaks directly into the phone as his sister, Sky, records.

The video comes in the wake of a court ruling that determined the children should live with Kanyari, despite having previously been under the care of Hiram Gitau, alias Tash, the widower of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.

Danny’s concerns about Pastor Kanyari

Danny said he respects his biological father but believes the man is not fit to be a parent.

He alleged alcohol use as one of his main concerns, describing incidents in which his father would drink and become drunk, and alleging that Kanyari used to physically assault people, including his mother and his employees.

“My baba drinks, he gets drunk. My mum, we used to live with him,” he said.

Danny also mentioned that he had personally been beaten, though he said he was not aware of it at the time it happened.

“There are so many reasons why I want to live with my stepdad. My biological father, I respect him, but he’s just not fit. He’s not fit to be a parent,” he added.

Court ruling sparks debate

The video has ignited significant debate online, with many viewers moved by Danny’s composed yet heartbreaking account.

His willingness to speak publicly at his age has drawn widespread attention, particularly given the legal battle surrounding custody of the children since Betty Bayo’s death.

Betty Bayo, a well-known Kenyan gospel musician, was previously married to Pastor Kanyari before the couple separated. She later married Tash, with whom the children had been living before the court intervened.
