A video reviewing Diamond Platnumz’s watch collection has set the internet ablaze after a watchfluencer delivered a scathing verdict on the Tanzanian superstar’s timepieces, collectively valued at more than KSh 129 million.

The commentary reel features a content creator filming himself in selfie style against display images of the singer’s jewellery box. The tone throughout is sharp, sarcastic, and deeply unimpressed.

What’s actually in the collection?

The reviewer walked through each watch on display, beginning with a green-dial Rolex Oyster Perpetual that had been heavily modified with aftermarket diamonds.

He argued that adding aftermarket stones to any Rolex, especially an entry-level model, destroys its resale value almost entirely.

Next up was a piece from a brand called Genève, which the watchfluencer described as typically found in thrift stores.

He acknowledged, however, that this particular example is among the brand’s higher-end offerings, featuring a 10-carat gold casing and bracelet.

A GMT Master II also caught his attention, but not for the right reasons. He noted that while Rolex did release a fully iced-out GMT Master II, reference 116769TBR, around 2008, this particular watch did not match that model.

The browning of the dial visible in the footage made him question whether the stones were genuine diamonds or cheaper gemstones.

Two more iced-out pieces appeared to follow the design language of the Rolex Datejust, references 126331, complete with jubilee bracelets, iced bezels and fully encrusted cases.

A cream-dial Oyster Perpetual and a blue sunburst-dial Datejust with diamond hour markers also featured in the collection.

The final piece examined was compared to the Cartier Santos Medium WJSA0014, described as a beautiful watch in person.

The reviewer stopped short of declaring it a fake outright but pointed out that the font on the dial looked slightly off compared to authentic examples, inviting viewers to make their own judgement.

“In fact, most of them, because of the aftermarket diamonds being put over there. I don’t know if he shops himself, which if he does, I wouldn’t be surprised, but if he has a personal shopper and those are the watches being selected, oh my goodness, somebody’s really eating well off his money, and it’s not his baby mamas.”

His central argument throughout the review was that loading watches with aftermarket diamonds does not signal taste or wealth.
