Nairobi-based lawyer Adrian Oluoch has travelled to Southeast Asia to represent the former ODM secretary-general and Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi Movement at the 65th Liberal International (LI) Congress.

Oluoch announced his departure on Thursday, October 29, 2026, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), sharing that he was bound for Bangkok, Thailand, and subsequently Taipei, Taiwan, for the congress.

65th Liberal International Congress

The five-day event, scheduled to run from November 2 to 6, 2026, is being hosted jointly by Liberal International full member parties, the Democrat Party of Thailand, and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of Taiwan.

Bangkok will host the opening sessions from Monday, November 2 to Tuesday, November 3, before delegates travel to Taipei, Taiwan, where proceedings will continue from Thursday, November 5 to Friday, November 6. Delegates are expected to arrive on Sunday, November 1, with departures scheduled for Saturday, November 7.

Liberal International confirmed that the event marks the organisation’s first statutory gathering on the Asian continent since 2014, taking place at a moment of considerable pressure on liberal-democratic parties and governments, particularly in Taiwan.

Linda Mwananchi Movement party’s presence

Oluoch’s attendance signals the Linda Mwananchi Movement Party’s engagement with the global liberal political network.

He will represent both the party and Sifuna at the international forum. The announcement attracted significant support from the movement’s supporters.

Travel between the two host cities is well established, with approximately 15 to 20 direct daily flights connecting Bangkok and Taipei operated by multiple carriers. The typical direct flight takes roughly three hours and 45 minutes.
