Musician and former Starehe MP Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, visited comedian William Okore at Miritini Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Mombasa on Friday, October 30.

Okore, affectionately known as Onyi, is undergoing a three-month rehabilitation programme at the facility.

What did Jaguar say after visiting Onyi?

Jaguar shared the update on Facebook, writing that he found Onyi “settled and full of life” and that the two had a meaningful conversation about his recovery journey and eventual return to normal life.

“Kept my word today and dropped by Miritini Rehab Centre to check on our brother, comedian Onyi, former actor, Real Househelps of Kawangware. It was great seeing him settled and full of life. We had a constructive conversation about his recovery and reintegration into society,” Jaguar wrote.

The road to rehabilitation began when Onyi, who rose to fame through the popular Kenyan comedy series Real Househelps of Kawangware, reached out to Jaguar seeking employment after the show ended.

He disclosed that he was struggling financially and had dependants relying on him.

His sisters separately contacted Jaguar, expressing worry over his heavy drinking and emotional decline following job loss and homelessness.

Moved by the situation, Jaguar worked with NACADA officials to secure Onyi a place at the Mombasa facility for a three-month programme, also pledging to cover his personal shopping and upkeep costs throughout his stay.

NACADA CEO Dr Anthony Omerikwa publicly praised Onyi for having the courage to seek help openly, while Nairobi City official Geoffrey Mosiria also stepped in to offer psychosocial and welfare support.

How does Jaguar plan to support Onyi?

Jaguar made clear that his involvement would not stop at the rehab visit. Once Onyi completes the programme, Jaguar plans to empower his sister’s business as a way of building a more stable support structure around the comedian.

He also committed to gifting Onyi an iPhone 14 Pro Max to help him launch a content creation career.

“My support doesn’t end here. Once he’s out, I’ll be empowering his sister’s business to help secure a stronger foundation for him, along with an iPhone 14 Pro Max to get Onyi started on creating content. Keep fighting the good fight! We are behind you, brother,” Jaguar wrote.

After the programme concludes, Jaguar and Onyi’s family plan to assess his progress together before deciding whether he returns to acting or pursues a business path.
