Betty Bayo’s close friend Shiru Stuart has finally addressed growing public concern over the apparent silence from the late singer’s family during a messy custody battle involving her two children.
A Nairobi court recently ruled in favour of Pastor Victor Kanyari, Betty’s former husband, granting him custody of their children, Sky and Danny.
The ruling came after a dispute with Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, who is Betty’s widower.
Both Sky and Danny have publicly stated that they wish to continue living with him.
What did Shiru Stuart say about custody battle?
The case drew widespread attention online, with many Kenyans questioning why Betty Bayo’s blood relatives had not stepped forward publicly.
One netizen posed a pointed question that began circulating on social media, asking about the whereabouts of Betty’s mother, sisters, brothers, aunties and close relatives amid the ongoing custody situation.
Shiru, who is based in the UK and was a close confidante of the late singer, responded on Saturday, October 31, by sharing a screenshot of the question and addressing it directly in her caption.
“Betty Bayo’s family is very much aware of what’s happening. Wako kwa ground, praying and working behind the scenes. We speak daily,” she wrote, adding that those being questioned were “spiritually awake.”
She signed off with a lighthearted remark, reminding followers to ease up on the questions.
The post drew a wave of responses from followers who had been watching the custody saga closely.
Here is what some of them had to say:
@karowzeytafash:
“No explanations needed.”
Liz Nimmo Njuguna KE:
“The grandmother was the right person to step up as a mother.”
Maggie Baraka:
“Is it possible for them to stay with the children for some time before they get back to their father?”
Lucy Gathoni:
“I lack words.”
