President William Ruto has offered Kenyans an up-close look at the Bomas International Convention Complex in Nairobi, sharing a construction progress video that traces the facility’s dramatic transformation between June and October 2026.
The footage, posted on October 31, 2026, from the President’s official page on X, blends aerial drone shots with ground-level close-ups, capturing the building’s sweeping steel framework, roofing work, and facade cladding at various stages of development.
On-screen date stamps and a State House Kenya watermark give the montage an official, documentary feel.
Bomas convention complex takes shape
The video makes clear just how far the project has come in a matter of months.
Early shots from June 2026 show the skeletal steel structure rising from the site, while October 2026 footage reveals a far more complete picture, with roofing panels in place and exterior finishing work well underway.
The scale of the building is immediately apparent from the drone sequences, which frame the complex against the wider Nairobi landscape.
Ruto’s narration frames the development as a strategic investment in Kenya’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.
“The Bomas International Convention Complex is being developed to strengthen Nairobi’s position as a premier MICE destination,” he said in the clip, pointing to the facility’s capacity to host large-scale international gatherings.
Major boost for Nairobi’s conference economy
The Bomas complex, located in Lang’ata, has long been one of Kenya’s most recognisable cultural venues. It is 323,500 square metres.
It has a capacity that can host at least 11,000 delegates and has 35 modern breakout and meeting rooms.
The new convention facility is set to significantly expand what the site can offer, positioning it as a serious rival to major conference hubs across the continent.
The project appears to be on track for an official opening in the near term, with the October footage suggesting the bulk of structural and exterior work is largely complete.
