Sometimes, the road to a better life comes with disappointments that make giving up seem like the easiest option.

For Rozi King, the journey involved a painful experience in Kuwait, financial losses in Bahrain and several moments when starting over seemed overwhelming.

However, she refused to let her setbacks define her future. Today, Rozi looks back at those difficult chapters with gratitude, saying her persistence eventually led her to a breakthrough in Dubai, where she also found love.

In a Facebook post, Rozi narrated how excited she was when she first secured an opportunity to travel to Kuwait, hoping to improve her life through domestic work.

But the reality she encountered was far different from what she had imagined. She quickly discovered that working as a domestic worker in a foreign country was not like doing the same back home.

She recalled being referred to as a “kadama”, a term she associated with slavery, and alleged that her employer subjected her to degrading treatment. At some point, Rozi says she requested permission to return home, but claimed her employer refused.

She further alleged that the situation deteriorated to the extent that she sometimes ate leftovers from the household.

Unable to endure the conditions any longer, she reported herself to the police and was eventually sent back home.

Rozi loses money in Bahrain

Returning home did not immediately bring the fresh start she had hoped for as she encountered betrayal from friends and people she had trusted, making her efforts to rebuild even more difficult.

Dtermined to find better opportunities, she subsequently tried her luck in Bahrain, hoping for a different outcome, but that attempt also ended in disappointment.

According to Rozi, she lost her money in the process, adding another setback to an already difficult journey.

Despite everything, she refused to abandon her dreams. She later tried Dubai, and this time, things finally worked out.

Dubai becomes Rozi’s turning point

Looking back at her journey, Rozi expressed gratitude for the breakthrough she eventually experienced in Dubai.

Although she did not disclose the specific opportunities that changed her circumstances, she celebrated the happiness she has found, particularly through her relationship with her husband.

Her post attracted reactions from social media users, some of whom related to the difficulties associated with seeking employment in Gulf countries.
